SCUBA Diving Pattayas Near Islands
SCUBA Diving Pattayas Near Islands
Koh Krok:
The Western face and the Southern point of the island are where the corals are. The corals start on the sand at 15m and extend right up to near the surface. An excellent site for a drift dive as the prevailing currents run parallel to the island. Large “bommies” are a feature of this site; Staghorn brainMushroom and table corals are in abundance. Neptunes Barrel and blue sponge are amongst the soft corals found here. Bushy Antipatharian corals can be found at the deeper sections.
The southern point is home to a few turtles and Pufferfish Parrotfish “Half and Half” Wrasse and Six banded Wrasses are plentiful . One section of the West face has an area covered with giant sea anemones along with the usual Anemone and Clownfish. Schools of small Barracuda Jacks and Tangs can be seen at the North point. There are a few small caves at the southwest end allowing entry only at high tide.
The area is great for snorkeling in particular the southern point. Another benefit for divers and snorkellers is that there is little or no surface traffic of speedboats and jetski’s.
Koh Larn:
The left of the bay there is a breakwater of large boulders. Along the seaward side of this breakwater the area is good for snorkeling and diving although the diving is very shallow. As you continue South West towards the head the corals get progressively deeper extending down to about 15 meters. At this point you round the head and come upon an area of short gullies with rock walls about 3m high. The sandy bottom offsets the walls and the corals very well. The marine life is plentiful and good and the area is home to a few Turtles and numerous Grey Nurse Sharks.
Still with the same area set off to the North East from the bay towards the cliff face on the island. The diver will find an area with flat sandy bottom and many large coral heads and groupings Here you will find numerous Giant Sea Anemones with their inhabitants as well as a variety of Elephant Ear Anemones and the Black and White Clown Fish. Many divers may have seen these clown fish and observed their habit of disappearing into the mouth of the anemone as the divers approach. These fish make very good photographic subjects.
A point to note around these islands is the large number of fishing boats that operate with their nets very close to the reefs. It is a pity that the authorities cannot control the practice of netting so close to these islands as they are visited daily by thousands of visitors hoping to view the excellent corals and the myriad of fish.
Koh Sac:
Koh Sac is a small almost kidney shaped island lying just to the North of Koh Larn. It is very popular with the large numbers of Asian tourists that come to Pattaya and the waters can be very busy particularly in the mornings. From midday onwards the tourists tend to depart leaving the divers and snorkelers to enjoy the beautiful bay and plentiful corals. This bay is well protected from the prevailing winds for most of the year and the water is calm and clear.

Scuba Diving In South East Spain The Province Of Murcia
Scuba Diving In South East Spain The Province Of Murcia
500 Madridian Scuba divers per week can not be wrong.. can they? I’ve been living here in Mazarron now for almost 3 years it was the sun that brought me here far away from the English rains and cold Monday mornings. Being a diver i wanted to be near the Mediterranean coast i never took much notice of the town that i was to end up living in i sort of just checked out if there was any diving around here.. luckily for me there was.
Within a few weeks of being here i took myself down to the local dive centre and booked myself a dive right away i was not expecting much as i have Scuba’d in some very exotic locations worldwide and been a little spoilt i guess. Two minutes boat ride from the Puerto the boat was tied off to the bouy and us divers aboard were briefed by the DM as we kitted up the dive site was called El Bajo De Emilio. The DM’s brief was pretty good well it sounded to good to be true a small undersea mountain with 20 wrecks around it and a statue? Barracuda Grouper and Eagle Rays he sure made it sound good.
Ten minutes later we were in the sea and dropping down the line to a spot on the side of the mountain in 15 metres of water I couldnt have asked for more the visibility was around 30 metres and straight away even when descending i could make out the eerie shape of 2 wrecks in the distance and then a school of Tuna not 10 metres away it was looking good a very promising start. It just got better and better we covered around 5 or 6 wrecks all around 30 metres long saw the statue “La Gorda” standing upright on her plinth which was settled on the sand. There were Barracuda Pez Luna sunfish Grouper gigantic Toothed Bream Congers and lots of Moray Eels..no Eagle Ray though. Fifty minutes later we were back at the line doing the 5metre stop it was a perfect dive except for the noshow from an Eagle ray But hey “whats that in the distance heading this way”? the Eagle Ray winging his way along the dive had now gone far beyond being perfect.
That was it for me i just had to take my PADI instructors exam and dive here permanently so i did here we have 13 quality dive sites all within 15 minutes boat ride from the Puerto if you want more info about the diving here in Mazarron then feel free to hit me up details in my profile and i will gladly answer any questions that you have and also offer advice on diving conditions etc.
Footnote.. Every friday for 6 months during spring and summer approximatly 500 Scuba divers from Madrid 6 hours drive away descend on Puerto De Mazarron to do just 2 or 3 dives and then drive all the way home. So can they be wrong?. No way but they do know how to keep a secret though the diving here is outstanding yet little is ever mentioned Do others know it exists?

Scuba Diving In Mauritius
Scuba Diving In Mauritius
Mauritius. This tropical Indian Ocean Paradise. A drop in the ocean Is only a dot in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Mauritius has a welldeveloped infrastructure and tourism industry. It hosts visiting tourist from all over the world in luxury hotels apartments and bungalows. Besides the beautiful long white beaches and crystal clear tropical lagoons scuba diving is one of the main attractions for tourists.
The excellent sea conditions and beautiful coral reefs make Mauritius a perfect place to learn to dive.
So both beginners and certified divers can be sure to have safe enjoyable dives in these perfect conditions. Especially on the north east coast where the lagoons and sea are protected from the trade winds the Grand Bay and Trou aux Biches areas host the best tropical fish life and coral reefs. Usually all are boat dives to dive sites outside the barrier reefs. This is because the barrier reefs run almost completely around the Island with breaks or passes in the reef through which boats can pass to get into the open sea. The lagoons inside the barrier reefs are shallow and not suitable for diving. The sites in crystal clear water outside the barrier reef are very specifically located and easily accessible by boat. To get the best out of your diving experience in Mauritius it is advisable to dive with one of the accredited dive centers that will take you to all the best sites and ensure that you have a safe comfortable scuba diving Mauritius experience.
The Tourism Authority in Mauritius controls all registered dive centers and issues licenses to the boat skippers and dive operator that meet the require standards. All internationally recognized diving certifications are accepted and Mauritius has become a training ground for beginner divers because of the extremely easy diving conditions.
Unlike the reefs in Seychelles and the Maledives islands the coral reefs have not been bleached or affected by the warming of the ocean. The crystal clear water the abundance of fish life and colorful reefs provide magnificent backdrops for underwater photography and filming. In the Trou aux Biches and Grand bay areas artificial reefs have been create by sinking wrecks at specific points. These wrecks usually old Japanese fishing trawlers host an abundance of fish and coral life creating exciting dive sites and interesting backdrops for underwater photo and film. There are no real wall dives in Mauritius. In most areas the seabed slopes away gradually becoming deeper as you move away from the barrier reefs. Therefore most dive sites have a bottom at a reasonable depth making diving for beginners and experienced diver safer and less stressful. There are however small drops like ledges on some of the sites creating very interesting giant rock structure hosting larger fish life gorgonian fan coral some soft corals and in some spots black coral.
All round Mauritius is really a very safe and interesting location for a diving holiday. There is something for everyone.
Looking for quality diving holiday on a paradise island come Diving in Mauritius.

Scuba Diving Imagine
Scuba Diving Imagine
Scuba Diving Imagine .
Imagine a tropical sun kissed Island white sandy beaches with crystal clear waters an abundance of natural beauty.
The wind rustling through the palm trees and the sound of the ocean waves trickling up the beach. See changing tones of colour as the reef progresses to the deep blue drop off and coral wall.
Below the surface the sunlight illuminates the soft coral blooms contrasting an array of colour with the hard coral garden and the sandy sea floor all highlighted by the clouds of darting reef fish going about their usual business. Follow the slope of the reef down as the water gets deeper sunlight has less effect and the colours appear darker and more subtle if you go deeper the spectrum of colours disappear and everything seems to be different shades of brown and grey.
Scuba Diving requires expert and professional training you can choose from several world renowned dive training agencies and associations. More experienced highly trained expert Divers can enjoy different aspects of diving ranging from exploration of ship wrecks underwater cave systems to studying coral reefs endless forms of marine life or even scientific research of complete eco systems.
The fast moving pace of digital Underwater Video and photography has made capturing these amazing images more easily and affordable before digital technology most hobby divers trying to capture underwater images probably only achieved a few usable pictures from the limited 36 frames possible. Todays underwater photographers are able to view their photos underwater and have thousands of frames available to try to get it right.
Scuba Diving allows you to experience a whole new world with a feeling of freedom and purpose. A very tranquil and quiet
parallel universe a totally alien experience.
If you havent tried scuba diving for yourself I would recommend giving it a go. Not everyone can cope with the concept of breathing underwater but if you can and you enjoy the experience chances are it will become a passion.
Perhaps Diving is not for you.
Maybe you would settle for the white sandy beach in a blue lagoo.

Scuba Diving Bunaken North Sulawesi
Scuba Diving Bunaken North Sulawesi
Bunaken National Park is located in North Sulawesi Indonesia. With over 8000 hectares of coral reef an estimated 2000 species of fish and at least 58 different genera and sub genera of corals in the park its no surprise this region has been an attraction for divers for many years. The reef slopes range in depth from 50 meters to over 200 meters the deepest of which are found between the islands of Mantehage and Manado Tua at over 1300 meters. This is possible only because of the lack of a continental shelf part of the reason Bunaken Island plays host to such a wealth of marine life. Nutrient rich waters are fed through oceanic channels. Upwelling brings this food source closer to the surface where many species feed. Its these ingredients that attract those wishing to dive Sulawesi.
Many hard and soft corals compete on the reefs that surround the park. Colonies of animals individually referred to as polyps are joined together by a thin layer of common tissue. They generally survive at depths between the surface of the water and 30m. All corals contain zooxanthellae a species of algae which converts sunlight into food through photosynthesis; the excess nutrients not used by the algae are consumed by the coral this is known as a symbiotic relationship.
Reef dwelling fishes live around the coral reefs and lagoons of the park. They rely on the reef as a food source and for shelter. Most reef fishes rest during the night whilst being active during the day. These include the butterfly fish angel fish and gobies amongst many other families. Pelagics however are open water fish travel long distances and are generally faster swimmers. These include trevally tuna and sharks.
Marine reptiles also inhabit the park. Estuarine crocodiles have been sighted in the mangrove areas although sightings are very rare. Sea snakes despite spending considerable amounts of time beneath the surface are air breathers making them reptiles and are often seen by divers particularly in sea grass beds and mangrove areas.
Of the eight species of turtle found worldwide at least five live in Indonesia three of which make regular sightings. All in all Bunaken Marine Park supports an incredible wealth of marine life. For those wishing to experience diving in Indonesia Bunaken is a must see destination.

Scuba Diving Around Pattayas Koh Sac Island
Scuba Diving Around Pattayas Koh Sac Island
Koh Sac is a small almost kidney shaped island lying just to the North of Koh Larn. It is very popular with the large numbers of Asian tourists that come to Pattaya and the waters can be very busy particularly in the mornings. From midday onwards the tourists tend to depart leaving the divers and snorkelers to enjoy the beautiful bay and plentiful corals. This bay is well protected from the prevailing winds for most of the year and the water is calm and clear.
There are numerous dive sites around the island most being in the 3 15 meters range although on the eastern side some deeper corals are to be found at around 26 meters. The North East corner starts off with clean white sand progressing to the usual range of hard corals as you approach the island. Here the corals are at depths from 16m and as you round the corner they progress deeper extending to 18 meters. This corner is home to a few Hawksbill and Leatherback Turtles as well as numerous Grey Nurse Sharks. The sharks are however hard to find as they tend to be very shy and divers need to search them out usually under the coral heads.
As you round the corner and the depth increases the area abounds with whip corals barrel sponges some soft corals and gorgonian fans. Once round this corner the corals continue right round the Southern shore of the island.
An interesting dive site as you approach Koh Sac from Pattaya is to be found directly off the small cliff face about 100m out at a depth of 26 m. This site consists of predominantly soft corals and hydroids on a flat sandy bottom and is home to numerous colonies of sea horses pipe fish and dragon fish. Unfortunately the diver must catch this dive at the right time of day when all the soft corals are open to really enjoy the myriad of beautiful pastel and fluorescent colours present.
In the sandy bay of Koh Sac as you head out in a North West direction away from the island there are no corals to mention. The area is home to some very unusual species including the above mentioned two as well as Sea horses Pipe fish short spined Urchins Sand dollar Urchins Star fish Tube and Banded Tube Anemones. Flat fish Spider crabs juvenile Octopus and the Periclimes shrimp.
At the West part of the bay there are large areas of shallow corals 2 4 meters with abundant marine life that are suitable for the snorkeler and diver alike although the snorkelers must beware of the large amount of surface traffic jet skis banana boats and speed boats. The best time to be here is from midday onwards when the hordes of tourist leave the island to return to Pattaya. It is a great pity that we do not have any regulations that are enforced to protect these corals and the visitors viewing them.
Moving on to the North West corner of Koh Sac leading off from the corals in the bay the corals extend deeper down to about 15 meters as the divers round the corner. The corals here are in excellent condition and the area is categorised by huge Boulder Bommies as well as Tiered Staghorn Plate Encrusting Brain and Mushroom corals. The marine life is plentiful and includes various Damsels Banana fish Copper Banded Butterflies Bantayan Butterflies Wrasses of all types Puffers Squirrels Jacks and Fusiliers. There are also a few Turtles. Grey Nurse Sharks small Morays and Blue Spotted Stingrays to be found.
This is an excellent site for divers novice and experienced and snorkelers alike.

Scuba Diving Around Pattaya Far Islands
Scuba Diving Around Pattaya Far Islands
As the far islands are uninhabited and a little further from Bangkok the visibility tends to be marginally better than at the Near Islands. All of the Far Islands have large amounts of Jacks Trevellys Barracuda Rabbitfish Angelfish Butterflyfish Wrasse Gobi’s and as with the near islands thousands of Damselfish as well as some Giant Reef Rays some up to 2 metres across. A variety of sharks can also be found in these sites.
Koh Rin:
Koh Rin has three main dive areas each of which can easily support more than one dive. Hin Ton Mai also known as South Rock is a very popular dive spot as the fish life is very varied with lots of Moray Eels and Barracuda. There are plenty of both hard and soft corals coral whips as well as very good invertebrate life such as nudibranchs brittle stars and feather stars. This site has very good coral life down to 16 metres. Hin Khao also known as North Rock has as much coral life as South Rock and has lots of rock outcroppings that are homes to many sharks and eels. This is an excellent site for searching around for the more unusual nudibranchs pipefish razorfish and others that like to hide away. The site has good diving down to around 14 metres. Koh Rin bay. This site is unlike the two rocks previously mentioned part of the main island of Koh Rin. Although this site only goes down to a maximum depth of 12 metres it is well protected from currents and is therefore a nice relaxing dive when compared to both South and North Rock.
Koh Man Wichai:
Koh Man Wichai has two excellent dive areas the first of which ‘The Wall’ cannot be completed in one dive. The Wall is a 7 metre high coral wall that runs down from 9 to 23 metres and is a dive in itself. The area around the wall itself is an excellent dive site you can start your dive from the bay and go out along the soft coral line at 18 metres finish half of your allotted time and come back to the boat along the hard coral line at 12 metres two environments in one dive !! As each environment is different with the larger fish among the soft corals this is for me the best dive to be had around Pattaya islands. The other dive site at Koh Man Wichai is called ‘The Fingers’ the fingers are a set a rocks stretching from land out to sea to a depth of 12 metres the hard coral and fish life is very good and as there are five fingers but no thumb !! it is like diving across a large hand.
Koh Hu Chang:
Koh Hu Chang is a very small island that although quite shallow at around 10 metres has some very good corals and abundant small fish life. Koh Hu Chang probably has more sea anemones than either Koh Rin or Koh Man Wichai and as it is well protected from the wind is a good relaxing dive spot.
Koh Klung Bedan:
Koh Klung Bedan is another small dive site that is also quite shallow maximum coral depth being 12 metres. This dive site has many Staghorn and Table corals as well as Boulder corals that have many Christmas Tree worms.
Koh Phai:
Koh Phai or Bamboo Island is controlled by the Royal Thai Navy who restricts the use of the beaches but the small sheltered bay at the south of the island is ideal for beginners.
